Here we have a comparison between two of the most popular fat loss supplements around – Burn XT and Hydroxycut. Today, these two will “lock horns” as we take a closer look at their ingredient profiles, serving sizes, safety profiles, and more – in order to see which is better between the two and how they compare to other weight loss supplements on the market.
Burn XT vs Hydroxycut Summary
While neither Burn XT nor Hydroxycut makes it on our “top list,” Hydroxycut is the winner between the two. It uses more effective ingredients than Burn XT, and it has less caffeine so its risk of side effects is lower.
However, Hydroxycut has some major issues, as does Burn XT, which makes both of them fall behind the leading brands.
Hydroxycut is missing some important ingredients for appetite suppression and fat loss (including Glucomannan and green tea extract, among others), and the effectiveness of its key ingredient – Coffea Canephora Robusta – is not as researched as the manufacturer claims on their website. There are just 2 studies that support Hydroxycut’s main ingredient, whereas the rest of the human evidence looks disappointing.
Burn XT vs Hydroxycut Overview
Burn XT
Burn XT by the U.S. manufacturer Jacked Factory is one of the most popular thermogenic diet pills on Amazon. Thermogenic meaning, it works to keep your metabolic rate high even when you’re not exercising.
As an all-natural fat burner, Burn XT is claimed to help support your body’s weight loss process, by:
- Reducing appetite
- Promoting increased energy expenditure
- Boosting fat breakdown
The way Burn XT aims to give you these benefits is through the use of clinically dosed, evidence-backed ingredients. Among these, we have cayenne pepper extract and a large dose of 300mg of caffeine.
The question is, does Burn XT really live up to its claims, and how will it work for you?
We’ll answer that in detail soon, but first, let’s take a look at its competitor.
Hydroxycut
As we said, Hydroxycut is one of the most hyped fat burners you’ll see online. It is manufactured by Iovate Health Sciences Inc., a Canadian supplement company. It comes in different versions, including the Pro Clinical Hydroxycut which we’ll be reviewing today, along with Hydroxycut Hardcore and Hydroxycut Elite.
So, what does Hydroxycut do?
According to their website, Hydroxycut contains a science-backed key weight loss ingredient that will help you burn more calories, and thus, lose weight gradually over time.
In addition, Hydroxycut claims to provide fast-acting energy from caffeine. You will also find some essential B vitamins and apple cider vinegar in the formula for additional weight loss support.
However, by far the biggest claim by Hydroxycut is that it contains this one key ingredient – Coffea canephora robusta. They say this ingredient has been shown in two separate scientific studies to help people lose 10.95lbs on average after 60 days of consumption paired with a low-calorie diet in the first study, and 3.7lbs in 8 weeks with a calorie-restricted diet and moderate exercise in the second study.
So, most of Hydroxycut’s benefits apparently come from Coffea canephora robusta. The rest of the supplement’s formula has a supportive role in increasing your energy and helping you metabolize foods more efficiently.
The question is, does Hydroxycut’s claims hold water? Is Coffea Canephora Robusta really a superstar weight loss ingredient, and if yes, how much weight can you expect to lose by using this ingredient? Is Hydroxycut as effective as Burn XT and other weight loss supplements on the market? Let’s find out!
Burn XT vs Hydroxycut Ingredients
Burn XT Ingredient Analysis
Here is a picture of Burn XT’s ingredient label:

As a whole, Burn XT doesn’t look like a bad fat burner at all. It contains some of our favorite ingredients for helping with fatigue, mental focus, and metabolic activity.
We get a decent dose of Green Tea Extract and its active compounds, as well as 300mg of caffeine for a strong energy kick. Burn XT should definitely improve your workouts and give you more energy throughout the day. You should also be burning slightly more calories than usual thanks to the thermogenic effects of caffeine and green tea.
That said, is Burn XT the best fat burner we’ve seen?
Not by a long shot.
There are some issues about Burn XT’s formula that make it fall behind the current market leaders.
One issue that you may have noticed is the caffeine dosage. At 300mg per serving, it will be too much for a lot of people. If you usually don’t tolerate stimulants, then definitely stay away from this much caffeine. Even if you’re used to consuming high doses of this stimulant, it’s still smart to watch your caffeine intake outside of this supplement to avoid jitters and energy crashes.
But caffeine isn’t the only issue with Burn XT.
The supplement also uses too few ingredients to make a substantial impact on your weight loss. It’s missing an appetite suppressant such as glucomannan, along with something to help support blood sugar levels throughout the day – think chromium and vitamin D. Our point is, many of the ingredients that the best fat burners use are missing from Burn XT.
Even when there are great ingredients in Burn XT, some of them are underdosed. Case in point – cayenne pepper extract. An otherwise great natural metabolism-booster, cayenne pepper has been shown to work best in doses of 150mg or higher – which is what the best fat burners use. Burn XT only has 50mg per serving. You’re unlikely to notice any effects from this amount.
Overall then, Burn XT is lacking in many areas to be called one of the most effective weight loss supplements around. Apart from a strong energy boost from caffeine, and a slight metabolic increase from the green tea extract, you probably don’t want to put your hopes too high with this one.
Hydroxycut Ingredient Analysis
Here’s a look at Hydroxycut’s ingredient label:

The ingredient profile of Hydroxycut is significantly different from that of Burn XT.
That said, Hydroxycut doesn’t look like a terrible formula, either. It contains some basic nutrients you’d find in a multivitamin – including B vitamins and vitamin D. It is also low in caffeine, which gives it an advantage over Burn XT for people who want a stim-free fat burner.
Apart from these basic vitamins, Hydroxycut’s main key ingredient is C. Canephora Robusta. This is a type of green coffee bean that doesn’t contain much caffeine, but it makes it up with chlorogenic acid.
Chlorogenic Acid is a compound known to have minor-to-moderate heart health and fat loss benefits. It slows carbohydrate absorption in your gut, along with reducing blood sugar spikes, which can help prevent fat gain.
As you’ve seen at the beginning of our report, there are 2 studies that Hydroxycut’s makers cite that show C. Canephora Robusta’s effectiveness for weight loss. The studies show C. Canephora Robusta can moderately to significantly reduce body fat percentage when paired with a calorie-restricted diet and regular exercise.
However, the results from just these two studies can be somewhat misleading. The first issue is that 2 studies with a relatively small sample size are not proof that it will work the same for you. The second issue is that the study participants combined the usage of C. Canephora Robusta with a caloric deficit and regular exercise. Therefore, it’s difficult to tell how significant the role of this ingredient is specifically in the weight loss success of study participants.
Additionally, other human studies haven’t seen the same results with Coffea Canephora Robusta as the two studies that Hydroxycut cites on their website.
Perhaps you’re curious to hear our opinion? From our experience, a single ingredient alone can’t do all the heavy lifting. Sure, it can help promote weight loss, but in order to be called a truly effective weight loss formula, it needs to have multiple proven compounds that target weight loss from multiple angles.
Other ingredients in Hydroxycut don’t look impressive at all. Apart from C. Canephora Robusta extract, Hydroxycut contains the basic nutrients we’ve already mentioned, as well as a low dose of apple cider vinegar and 200mg of caffeine. Apple Cider Vinegar is generally healthy – it should improve your digestion and immunity. Caffeine, meanwhile, works to boost your focus and energy levels.
But that’s as good as it gets. Only 3 ingredients that are somewhat effective. It doesn’t look that glamorous when you strip away all the marketing and fancy claims!
Vitamin D in Hydroxycut is underdosed; there is only 200IU per serving. This is far below the minimum effective amount for weight loss support of 3000-5000IU.
As far as appetite suppression and fat burning go, there is a lot missing from Hydroxycut as well. Glucomannan, Green Tea Extract, Cayenne Pepper Extract – these are all some of the best natural ingredients that are omitted from Hydroxycut.
Which Formula Looks Better Overall?
If you’re serious about getting results, we’d recommend doing more research before rushing into it with either Burn XT or Hydroxycut. Both formulas have some serious downsides. In the case of Burn XT, it relies too much on caffeine to make up for the lack of core ingredients; thus, giving off an illusion that it works.
As for Hydroxycut, it only contains some basic vitamins, 200mg of caffeine, apple cider vinegar, and C. Canephora Robusta. Most of these ingredients except for caffeine and C. Canephora Robusta are underdosed. We don’t think C. Canephora Robusta alone is potent enough to give you the results that the manufacturer claims. Not to mention that Hydroxycut too is missing a lot from its formula that would make it more effective.
In our opinion, any of the best-rated fat burners currently on the market offer better results than either Burn XT or Hydroxycut.
Burn XT vs Hydroxycut Side Effects: Which is Safer?
Between the two, Hydroxycut is less likely to cause side effects. This is due to the fact that Burn XT contains 300mg of caffeine, whereas Hydroxycut has 200mg, which is a more optimal amount.
Pricing & Value
A bottle of Burn XT will set you back $29.99. If taking the recommended 2 capsules per day, it will last you a month.
The Pro Clinical Hydroxycut will cost you $19.99 per bottle on the official website. Hydroxycut’s recommended dosage is 2 capsules per day to start with, and 4 capsules per day after several days of using the supplement. This means that a 72-cap bottle will only last you 18 servings!
Takeaway
That concludes our Hydroxycut vs Burn XT comparison. Between the two, which is better?
Due to the cheaper price and a lower risk of side effects, we rate Hydroxycut as the better option. However, if you’re looking for a stronger energy kick and don’t mind the high caffeine dosage, Burn XT could be the better option for you.
That said, before you rush into buying either of these two, we recommend checking other fat burners on sale. Don’t expect the same glamorous results that the marketing material on Hydroxycut’s and Burn XT’s websites shows. There are definitely better options available on the market today, supplements that use more proven ingredients and in better dosages.
